Project Overview:
The Birmingham Bajan Heritage Project is a year-long initiative that aims to document, preserve, and celebrate the cultural identity and lived experiences of the Bajan (Barbadian) community in Birmingham. Through storytelling workshops, culinary heritage sessions, oral history recordings, and a final public exhibition, the project will build a lasting legacy of British-Bajan culture in the UK. The project is being supported through a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Role Purpose:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Community Heritage Project Co-ordinator to oversee the delivery of this creative and community-driven heritage initiative. The successful candidate will work closely with community members, volunteers, cultural partners, and project stakeholders to facilitate workshops, manage the project timeline, and coordinate the creation of key outputs including:
• An audio archive of oral histories
• A community cookbook featuring Bajan recipes and stories
• A final public exhibition celebrating the Birmingham Bajan experience

Key Responsibilities:
• Project Management:
Lead on the planning, coordination, and delivery of monthly workshops and community events.
• Community Engagement:
Build strong relationships with Bajan community members and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive and meaningful participation.
• Workshop Facilitation:
Co-design and deliver creative workshops (e.g., storytelling, food heritage, oral history) with the support of artists, chefs, and heritage professionals.
• Documentation & Outputs:
Oversee the collection and curation of stories, recipes, and audio recordings for use in the cookbook, archive, and final exhibition.
• Volunteer Coordination:
Recruit, train, and support community volunteers and young heritage apprentices involved in the project.
• Monitoring & Reporting:
Maintain accurate project documentation, contribute to evaluation reports, and liaise with funders (e.g., The National Lottery Heritage Fund) as required.

Person Specification:
Essential:
• Proven experience in delivering community, cultural, or heritage projects
• Strong project management and communication skills
• Experience working with diverse and intergenerational communities
• Knowledge of Caribbean/Bajan culture or a strong interest in cultural heritage
• Ability to work independently, manage budgets, and meet deadlines
Desirable:
• Experience in oral history, storytelling, or food heritage projects
• Existing links to the Birmingham Bajan community
• Understanding of heritage funders and reporting requirements
• Familiarity with safeguarding and inclusive practice
